Weekly Update

Hi Everyone!

Happy Friday!  I know you Caps fans are over the moon today.  I'm not a big sports girl, but I love seeing the excitement around the school for the team. Congratulations to all of you who've been waiting your entire life for this win!

Meantime, we had a busy day.  We serenaded the volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast this morning, and celebrated the end of the year at our party!

Thank you for the generous birthday gifts the Room Moms presented to me today! Amazon, Panera, and Cheesecake Factory are my favorites, and now I have gift cards to enjoy this summer!  I was so surprised to see an ENTIRE cheesecake show up today - I know what I'm having for dinner tonight! The giant card from the kids is priceless, as is listening to them sing "Happy Birthday" to me. 💛

A few items for next week:

Rock and Read:

Monday is a school-wide "Rock and Read" in which classes take turns reading in certain hallways around the school.  Your child may bring a small towel or blanket to sit on during our class's turn at Rock and Read.

Picnic Lunch on Tuesday:

Our cafeteria will be used as a polling place for Tuesday's election, so every class in the school is eating lunch outside at its designated lunch time.  If possible, please have your child pack lunch on Tuesday.  Lunch will be available for purchase from the cafeteria; however, with the number of students in the school, it will help to have as many students pack as possible.

Yearbooks:

If your child ordered a yearbook, I sent it home today.  If your child did not order a yearbook, there will be a limited number of copies available for sale on a first-come/first-served basis on Monday, June 11th at the school store.  Yearbooks are $25; students must have exact cash or a check for $25 made payable to Pinebrook Elementary.  We will take time in class to sign yearbooks on Tuesday.  If your child purchased a yearbook and would like to have friends sign it, please have your child bring his/her yearbook on Tuesday.

Game Day:

Next Tuesday, June 12th, will be a game day. I sent a flyer home in yesterday's Thursday folder.  Students may bring a board game or card game (NO electronics, please) to play with friends on Tuesday.

Quarter 4 Report Cards:

Your child's 4th quarter report card will be viewable in your ParentVue account on Wednesday, June 20th.

Our schedule next week will be very fluid.  We have some "this and that" items to finish...our American Symbols unit, our 1st grade memory suitcases, and a secret Father's Day project.  Aside from that, we will continue to clean out our drawers and supplies, attend some end-of-year assemblies, celebrate the 5th graders before their Promotion Ceremony, and enjoy some extra time with friends in the sunshine!

Have a super weekend!  I will celebrate my birthday on Sunday with my boys. Something weird happened - yesterday I was 28 and about to have Savey, and today I'm about to be 44 with 2 teenagers!  ðŸ˜‚

Weekly Update

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for coming to our music program on Wednesday.  It's the first time our 1st graders have performed this program.  I hope you loved it as much as I did!

I told the kids I would send a couple of links to you because we've been loving some geography themed songs lately.  If you haven't watched these videos, take a peek! They are so cool!

As we enter our last full week together, here is some information you need to know...

Family Reading Night:
Our Pinebrook Family Reading Night will be Monday, June 4th at 6:30 pm here at school.  Come enjoy stories with your family, and complete some fun book-related activities.  I will be there with Savey and Jonah, who will help me model what reading looks like in our family!  :)

Field Day:
Our 1st Grade Field Day will be Tuesday, June 5th from 8:15 am - 12:00 pm. During Field Day, students rotate through various stations set up by our PE teachers, Mr. McPherson and Mr. Lose.  Some stations are inside, some are outside, and some involve water play.  Please refer to yesterday's Thursday folder for specific information about how to prepare for Field Day.

Pinebrook Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast:
Calling all volunteers!  The annual Pinebrook Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast will be Friday, June 8th at 8:30 am in the cafeteria at school.  If you have volunteered in any capacity this school year, please come to enjoy breakfast courtesy of our staff and entertainment courtesy of our students.

End of Year Celebration:
Our 1st Grade End of Year Celebration will be Friday, June 8th at 11:30 am in our classroom. All families are invited.  I sent home a food permission slip in yesterday's Thursday folder.  Please kindly sign and return it as soon as possible.

Drawer and Supply Clean Out:
Next week, we will begin to clean out our drawers and supplies.  We will do this slowly, over several days, so the kids' backpacks aren't overloaded with all the things they'll be bringing home.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:
  • Reading:  We will finish reading Charlotte's Web, which is becoming a class favorite!
  • Writing:  We will work on a 1st Grade Memories book.
  • Math:  We will finish our measurement unit.
  • Social Studies:  We will begin our short American symbols unit.  We will talk about the Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, American Flag, Statue of Liberty, and Bald Eagle.
Enjoy your weekend!  I hope it feels like summer soon!
